Okay, I’ve already gone through 4 iPhone 3Gs. The first one had a dead pixel, the second one had a crack hear the headphone jack, the third one had a dead pixel, and the fourth one had a dead pixel. I brought the fourth one in to the Apple Store today to get a “new” iPhone and this time I inspected the iPhone that they guy pulled out. The one he pulled out had a big red pixel that was stuck, the second one had a barely visible dead pixel and the third one had quite a few dead pixels. I know the guy, since I’ve been there so many times so I told him that I’d take the second one. I got it, signed the paperwork for the “new” iPhone and I left, when I got home tonight though, I saw the crack, near the headphone jack. I was about to scream! It’s a 30 minute drive to the nearest Apple Store. And I’ve been there way too many times for my iPods and iPhone. So I tried to fill in the crack with white toothpaste and it didn’t work. I was so pissed because I had an invisibleSHIELD with me too because I thought that this would be the “perfect” iPhone. So now, I want to know, is there one iPhone 3G without a dead pixel or a crack!? I really want to just get that one perfect iPhone and put it in this invisibleSHIELD. I know that I’m going to have to go to the Apple Store soon and get yet another “new” iPhone 3G. I would like to know why they took the second iPhone I ever had out of the little white box when the iPhone had only been out for 3 days, all they all refurbs? The guy at the store told me that they weren’t because they haven’t been out long enough, I wonder if the ones in white boxes are all of the iPhones that had a defect and are sent to Apple Stores as replacements. Well anyways, if anyone of you guys, or girls have a perfect iPhone 3G, let me know.
Kanoa k, shutup, I’m not a grown man that has $300 like it’s nothing. I worked my ass off to get $300 for this phone. I’m 14 so I couldn’y get a job, so I mowed my lawn and I have to mow it for free and edge every week to keep this phone.

Okay, so I dropped my iPhone a few months ago and it cracked the screen in the upper left hand corner; still, no technical damaged occured to the phone and it continued to work properly.

However, three days ago my phone dropped and fell face down on the tile floor. There was no physical damage apart from the crack that it already had, but part of touch sensor no longer works. The bottom of the touch screen doesn’t respond to touch anymore.

This is a problem because the only way I can unlock my phone is to turn it off and then on. And, even after doing that I can’t make calls, text, or use the iPod and Safari features because those are the four icons I have on the bottom.

Is there anyway Apple will repair it or fix it for free. I am still under warranty [for 13 more days] but when I called 1800MYIPHONE the guy basically said I’d have to buy a new one because they wouldn’t replace it if there is physical damage on the phone.

Will I have better luck if I go to an actual Apple store/genius bar and talk to them? Are there any other options? Maybe a way to fix it myself [doubtful]? Please give me any advice you have. I am in agony over this!!

ok i got color on the screen now but evertime i have to much it to a certain direction to make i guess contact its wierd i have to wiggle the top part with the lcd screen to get full picture but when i try to close the phone it doesnt it just show me white???

no i know installus is free im talking about the cracked apps that you can download on there…sorry for the misunderstanding..i mean since the apps in installus are free and cracked could they be unsafe in any way? …

Thanks for the reply. I have called Applecare and got a definite yes for a replacement. the crack is very common with 3G’s, and i have seen many circumstances via forums and discussion boards where the same crack has formed on theirs, and they have successfully received a replacement.

I live in Dubai, where iPhone hasn’t been launched yet but the cracked version is eaisly available in the market, so I got one four months ago.

The software version was 1.1.4, I know that I am not supposed to upgrade the software / firmware but since I’m such a wise guy I upgraded it anyways to the latest 2.1 version just for the hell of it and now the crack which unlocks the phone isn’t working, naturally.

The only thing I have to do, to get it back working again is to replace the firmware / software to the orignal 1.1.4 instead of the 2.1 I just installed. The problem is I dont know how, I even downloaded the 1.1.4 firmware from the net but I dont know how to get it installed to my phone.

Please help, after the iPhone every other phone just feels like “every other phone”
