My mom won’t let me buy her iPhone?

My mom decided to let my 3 year old neise play with her iPhone… she dropped it and the glass cracked!
She got another iPhone from her sister. She gave her broken one to my sister.
My sister said i could buy it.
My mother said no. Yes I already have a 3G… But this is what I wanted to do:
I want to buy it so I can fix it, it will give me something to do, teaches patience, and concentration.
And after I fix it, i either wanna unlock it and sell it on ebay or use it as an iPod.
My mom said no cuz she thinks I will break it! What kind of a reason is that! I have been known to break electronics but dear god it’s my money and it’s already broken! I have safety goggles too. (have to chip glass out of the front)
How do I convince her, every time I ask why, she ignores me or says “we’ll see” I don’t see how it makes sense that she trusts me with a working iPhone 3G, an iPod, and all sorts of other electronics, but won’t trust me with a BROKEN iPhone!???
