i dropped my iphone on concrete and it cracked the screen really really badly, and i need to get a replacement.
i have the first model iphone, with a silver metal back, and it’s 8 gb. the apple store said a replacement will be $199, but i need to know how much itll be totally with tax and everything?
Also, can i get the new model iphone? (the one with the plastic back and that’s faster speed)Or does that require signing up for another 2 year contract, in addition to the one i have?
thanks!!!

This is a tricky one because it is physical damage. They never like when you break your stuff like that and like to charge tons of money for it. But there are two ways this could happen.
1) If you got insurance on your phone through AT&T.
You call Asurion. and they will charge you $50 for a new phone and then they send you a new phone that is the same as the one you had or of equal value. They send it overnight and then you send the old phone back in the same box and its prepaid shipping.
2) Through Apple they will repair your phone for a fee if it is under apple advanced warranty it costs $29 plus tax and if it isn’t for the 8gb to be repaired it costs $228 plus tax. I got that from the apple website because their policies are tricky.
and from what I understand you must buy the new 3G phone for full price and it does not clarify if you need a new plan or not.
like I said Apple is confusing.
I hope that helped.
