Technically it is illegal but no one has been prosecuted for doing it. It can damage your IPhone and if it does no one, including Apple, will fix it.

yes, it is illegal. I have jailbreaked mine and there has been no problems, but if I were you I would stay away from doing that. My brother’s iphone suddenly became non-touch screen and he took it to apple and they saw it had been jailbreaked and said its not their problem. If you do it, its your problem if it breaks. hope that helps and good luck
